The Harlem Meer Cats

Ned Bennett’s own band, long established, and long overdue at the EDT. Recreating the Cotton Club atmosphere of 1920’s and 30’s Duke Ellington (with some Cab Calloway thrown in for good measure), this 7 (or 8) piece band plays authentic arrangements of Duke’s “Jungle Music” style, dark, mysterious, soulful, seductive and energetic all at once. You’ll hear favourites such as Mood Indigo, The Mooche, Black and Tan Fantasy, Jubilee Stomp, Sophisticated Lady, It Don’t Mean a Thing etc, along side lesser-known but equally fabulous tunes.

The Harlem Meer Cats have played at the Dulwich festival in the past, as well as Keswick, Swanage and Upton jazz festivals, as well as numerous Jazz clubs around the South East and London.

Regulars to the EDT jazz sessions rarely get to hear a line up as big as this, with Ned Bennett (alto sax, clarinet, vocals), Horace Cardew (clarinet, baritone sax), Alan Berlyn (trumpet), Jeff Williams (trombone), Colin Good (piano), Jerome Davies (bass) and Nick Ball (drums), all experts in this particular style.
