JAZZ at the EDT

South London’s top jazz club!

See the best national and internationally renowned jazz musicians, live on the first Wednesday of each month, at the EAST DULWICH TAVERN, 1 Lordship Lane, SE22 8EW

Doors open 8pm, music from 8.30pm

Tickets can be purchased on the door or in advance using the links.

As we always strive to pay the musicians the fee they deserve, we will be increasing our entry fee from £10 to £12 for our regular Wednesdays. This is still less than the price of 2 pints of beer!

And of course plans are afoot for the Dulwich Festival, with gigs from Wednesday 13th to Sunday 17th May. Some returning international giants, plus exciting new visitors to the EDT, and it goes without saying, everything will be of the highest quality.

TICKETS FOR TONY KOFI

Returning to his first instrument, the Alto Saxophone, Tony Kofi brings his quartet for a one hundred year celebration of alto saxophone legend Lou Donaldson, whose roots in Bebop evolved into a mastery of the Soul Jazz movement instigated by the great Jimmy Smith and championed by Blue Note founder Alfred Lion. Playing Donaldson tunes, and focusing largely on his work with the Hammond organ maverick Dr Lonnie Smith, they will be playing tunes such as “Hot Dog”, “Blues Walk,” “Good Gracious, Rev. Moses “Alligator Bogaloo” and “Ode to Billy Jo” as well as associated compositions by Jimmy Smith, Pat Martino, Horace Silver and others. Featuring Matt Ratcliffe (Organ), Ollie Young (Guitar), Andrew ‘Woody’ Wood (Drums)
Tony gained inspiration after being invited to an open rehearsal by Lou himself at the 1993 Mount Fuji jazz festival, where he drew inspiration for this project.

“One of today’s hottest and most innovative quartets”, BBC Music Magazine album of the month.

“A killer band with real bite”, Mark Youl, Jazzwise.

“Right from the outset, this is a project providing a personal insight into Donaldson and his work” ‘It also very clearly connects with an audience…who responded with enthusiasm and joy.
