The Big Firkin Band

The Big Firkin Band is a collective of world class jazz musicians, based in Lewisham and South East London, who come together to perform classic Big Band music made famous by the great bands of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Thad Jones, Stan Kenton and Woody Herman.

Expect to hear the greatest tunes from the golden age of jazz and swing performed by the best musicians in London, led by trombonist Eoghan Kelly.

Along with theatrical performances, the band members have busy careers performing as studio musicians and can be heard playing with London’s top orchestras and seen performing on TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, The Crown and the hit movie Maestro.

Band members have previously performed with Jazz greats such as Quincy Jones, Georgie Fame, Kenny Wheeler, Jamie Cullum, The BBC Big Band, Ronnie Scott’s Big Band, Syd Lawrence Orchestra, London Jazz Orchestra, The 1 o’clock Lab Band, BBC Concert Orchestra, The Heritage Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Airto Moriero, Deodato, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Matthew Herbert Big Band, Rufus Reid and have also played and recorded for such artists as Dionne Warwick, Blur, Florence And The Machine, Liam Gallagher, Mark Ronson, Paul Weller, Steel Pulse, Emelie Sandé, Goldie, Pete Tong, Beverly Night, All Saints, Monthy Python and loads loads more!

Find South London’s best Jazz venue, located in the fabulous upstairs bar at the East Dulwich TAVERN, 1 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, SE22 8EW.

(If the music isn’t enough to persuade you to come along, then the EDT always has a great variety of real ales on pump, including Landlord, Naked Ladies, Small Beer, Volden Pale, Volden Session etc etc)

Recent guests include Jean Toussaint, Shaney Forbes, Nathaniel Facey, The London Tango Quartet, John Turville, Iain Ballamy, Claude Deppa, Henry Lowther, Brandon Allen, Tony Kofi, The Hot Club of Jupiter, The Harlem Meer Cats, The Goldcoasters, Camina Banda etc etc.

First set is at 8.30-9.30, then we have a jam session open to all proficient players from 10.00-11.00. Expect some great jazz musicians to turn up and blow up a storm!
